The New York State Public Service Commission Wants to Hear From You:
On May 4, 2023, Liberty Utilities (f/k/a New York American Water) Corp., also known as Liberty NYW, filed amendments to its water tariff schedules seeking approval from the New York State Public Service Commission (Commission) to increase its annual water delivery revenue. Liberty NYW serves customers in two districts: Service Area 1 and Service Area 2 (SA1 and SA2). SA1 consists of water systems in Nassau, Orange, Putnam, Sullivan, Ulster, Washington, and Westchester counties. SA2 serves customers in the Merrick and Sea Cliff areas of Nassau County.
Liberty NYW is proposing to increase its delivery revenues by approximately $39.7 million on a consolidated basis across both service areas for the twelve months ending March 31, 2025. The proposed rates will increase the average residential monthly water bill by about $18.32 for current SA1 customers, $15.74 for Merrick customers, and $7.37 for Sea Cliff customers. The total monthly bill increase from the Liberty NYW revenue request is 39% in SA1, 42% in Merrick and 13% in Sea Cliff.
Under New York State law, the Commission must consider a utility’s rate proposal and may adopt or reject it in whole or in part or modify it.
To ensure full public participation, the Commission will hold virtual hearings on September 13, 2023, to solicit input and comments from the community regarding the Liberty Utilities (New York Water) rate case.
