
RESPONSIBILITIES
The Water Department is responsible for the safe treatment and delivery of water to approximately 4500 customers in 7 districts in the Town of Ulster. Duties include:
- Plant Operations
- Water main installation and break repairs
- Water meter readings, repair and replacement
- Water sampling
- General maintenance of the water districts properties
OVERVIEW
- Staff consists of the Water Superintendent, 4 Licensed Operators, an Operator Trainee and the Office Manager
- Each licensed operator must complete 30 hours of continuous training within a three-year period for license recertification
- 3 of our operators, and our superintendent, have been licensed for 10 years or more
- Our office manager handles all customer inquiries, billing and account information.
- The Ulster Water District is supplied by 4 wells located in Lake Katrine producing between 400 to 1,200 gallons per minute
- The water treatment plant processes 1,200 gallons per minute, removes both iron and manganese, and softens the water
- The average hardness for the Ulster Water District is 72 mg/L or 4 grains/gal
- Disinfection is achieved by chlorination
- The Ulster Water District has 3 water storage tanks with a total of 7,000,000 gallons of water in storage
- We provide water to 4,500 customers through 1,637 service connections
