RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Provide fair and equitable assessments for each Town of Ulster property
  • Maintain up-to-date information on each property (style, size, year built, ownership)
  • Administer exemptions; wholly exempt, veterans, business improvement, age, disability, existing STAR, other NYS mandated exemptions
  • Appear at the Assessment Board of Review along with resident Board Members on the Annual Grievance Day

SCHEDULE

March 1st
Taxable Status Date
Property is valued according to its ownership and condition as of this date. All exemption applications must be filed with the Assessor's Office.
May 1st
Tentative Roll Filed
A tentative listing of all assessments is completed and filed by the Assessor, beginning the formal grievance period.
4th Thursday in May
Grievance Day
The date when the Board of Assessment Review meets to hear complaints on tentative assessments,
concluding the Grievance period. All grievance applications must be filed.
July 1st
Valuation Date
All properties are valued according to the real estate market as of this date for each assessment roll.
